This unique facility offers a variety of vocational training services:
Fulfillment
Fulfillment training is one of JARC’s longest standing programs. Our center processes outgoing mail for local fundraising agencies and businesses in the community. Participants learn every aspect of mail fulfillment including collating, labeling, sorting, insertions, stamping, processing and calculating postage costs. Additionally, packaging and light assembly tasks are taught while completing projects that have been outsourced by local businesses.
Skills gained in this enviroment can be adapted to any similar corporate or other environment, large or small. Participants gain valuable practical work experience and learn a variety of work related skills such as using a time clock and following a schedule
Culinary
In our 1,500 square foot state-of-the-art culinary training facility, we provide training in all aspects of the food services industry. Hot meals and lunch items prepared through the program are sold in Café 95. The café is open to the public and provides participants with hands on customer service experience.
Participants in our culinary training program are closely supervised and receive well -rounded practical experience in a commercial style kitchen. They learn a variety of marketable skills including food preparation, dishwashing, busing and meal preparation, which often gives them an advantage when seeking employment in the community.
Environmental Services
Participants in this program gain skills in areas that provide them with skills that makes them an asset to employers. They learn maintenance skills such as vacuuming, mopping, washroom sterilization and general clean-up. They also complete room set-up and break down for events held in our Mel and Elaine Stein Living and Learning Center.
Computer Assisted Learning
The world as we know it has evolved into a technological society. No longer do we go to the local library to research information, rather we “let our fingers do the talking” by looking up information at home on our computers. E-mail has become a lifeline for maintaining relationships near and far, especially as people age and are less ambulatory.
Our participants receive computer training as an ongoing educational program. For some it will be as basic as understanding the relationship between the mouse and the cursor. For others it will mean learning data entry and the potential for job placement in competitive employment.
